Lezhe is a small city in the north of Albania, approximately one hour from Durres. It was a former stronghold of famous Illyrian tribes and there is archaeological evidence dating back to 4th BC. Over the centuries, it was also inhabited by Rome and then the Ottomans, as well as being the site of the League of Lezhe where Skanderbeg fought back against the Ottoman forces. The day tour includes a visit to Lezhe Castle which bears traces of Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman architecture. From the top of the castle, you will enjoy a beautiful 360-degree view of Lezha, the Adriatic Sea, and the mountains. This is followed by visiting the tomb of Skanderbeg and the ruins of Saint Nicholas Cathedral. After visiting Lezhe, lunch at a local agritourism family restaurant can be arranged where regional delicacies like pickles, cured meats, local cheeses, bio-olive oil, and pastries can be sampled.
