Situated 30 minutes from the capital of Tirana, Kruje is a historic Albanian town perched on the side of a mountain. Originally inhabited by the Albani Illyrian tribe, it was also the capital of the first Albanian state in the Middle Ages, the Principality of Arber, before becoming the capital of the Kingdom of Albania. The town is also known for being recaptured by Albanian hero Skanderberg from the Ottomans in 1443. Today, the town is home to the Skanderbeg Museum, the national Ethnographic Museum, Kruja Castle and the Old Bazaar. The tour of Kruje includes all of these sites, plus the WatchTower, the Cave of Sari Salltik at the top of the Holy Mountain, and a traditional lunch where you can sample Tave Dhehu, one of the national dishes. After soaking up the history and sights of this historic town with its panoramic mountain views, the tour returns to the hotel.
