Vjosa n’Fest to take Permet by storm

A free festival is scheduled to take place between 27 and 29 May 2022 in Permet in the south of Albania.

Vjosa n’Fest is a free festival taking place in the centre of Permet, near the shores of the iconic Vjosa river. Organised in conjunction with Tirana Ekspress cultural hub and the Ministry of Tourism, the event will consist of three fun-filled days highlighting the best of what the region offers.

Activities on the agenda include paragliding, cycling, diving, hiking, biking tours, and canoeing. An artisan fair and a culinary fair will showcase some of the best local products and support local people. In addition, there will be concerts including DJs and live music every evening.

The organisers said there would be a special kids zone and activities will include cycling and balloon making, amongst others.

Camping is available in the vicinity from EUR 4 a night, or there are a variety of guest houses available with prices starting at just EUR 15 per night.

Permet is a town in Gjirokaster county and is famous for its agrotourism, the Vjose River, and local hot springs that are said to have healing powers. Due to its outstanding natural values, it is also a popular place for canoeing and hiking. It is also known for different kinds of jams, wine and raki.

The Vjosa River is Europe’s last wild river and is subject to an international campaign to designate it in its entirety as a National Park. So far, the Albanian government has resisted such calls, designating it a Nature Park instead, which will not protect it from developing hotels, airports, HPPs and oil exploration. Shell is currently exploring for oil along its banks in the Permet-Kelcyre region, despite protests from citizens.

The Vjosa is valuable due to its beauty, structure, and diversity of its flora and fauna.
