Wizz Air, the largest airline in Albania and a “leading environmentally sustainable airline worldwide”, has announced its expansion plans from Albania by assigning an additional aircraft to its Tirana base. This state-of-the-art A321neo aircraft will not only increase the airline’s capacity but also provide a significant boost to the local economy.
With the introduction of this new aircraft, Wizz Air will expand its Tirana base to a total of 11 aircraft. From the winter season of 2023, passengers will have the opportunity to fly directly from Tirana to Bremen (Germany) and Valencia (Spain) on two new routes. Furthermore, the increased capacity will allow Wizz Air to offer more frequent flights from Tirana to Milan Malpensa, Bari, Venice Treviso, Turin, Ancona (Italy), Brussels Charleroi (Belgium), Athens (Greece), Paris Beauvais, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (France), and Baden-Baden (Germany).
In addition to these expansions, Wizz Air is launching another route from Tirana to Thessaloniki (Greece), starting from 14 August 2023. This route will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with ticket prices starting from 19.99 EUR. The total number of routes offered by Wizz Air from Albania will now reach 56, including the three newly announced routes.
This strategic decision to allocate additional aircraft to Tirana demonstrates Wizz Air’s commitment to expanding its operations in Albania and investing in the local economy. The move will create numerous direct and indirect job opportunities, including positions for pilots, cabin crew, and ground handling staff. In addition to the over 300 people already employed by Wizz Air in Albania, this expansion will contribute to the growth of tourism and open up new business prospects for local companies.
Diarmuid Ó Conghaile, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, expresses excitement about bringing another aircraft to Tirana and emphasizes the airline’s role in the continuous growth and development of the Albanian aviation industry. He believes that this investment will attract more visitors to the country, providing opportunities for businesses and communities in the region.
Piervittorio Farabbi, Chief Operating Officer of Tirana International Airport, applauds the collaboration with Wizz Air and welcomes the addition of a new aircraft to the airline’s fleet at Tirana International Airport. This development not only strengthens the partnership between the airport and Wizz Air but also demonstrates the airline’s confidence in the Albanian market. Farabbi highlights the increased capacity and connectivity that will benefit passengers, supporting tourism and business growth in the region. The airport remains committed to providing more low-cost options to Albanian passengers and looks forward to continued collaboration with Wizz Air.
