When I was about eight years old, I attended the Royal Cornwall Show in the town of Wadebridge where I grew up. The show took place every year and was a showcase of agriculture, food, and local businesses. This year, there was a BBC stand there, providing coverage of the event. They had a small booth where you could go and pretend to be a presenter, reading off the autocue the news about the day, and receiving a video of your attempt afterwards.
I went to that booth so many times to the point the woman staffing it told my mum, “she is going to be a TV presenter one day”. It always stuck with me, even when I launched my first community newspaper at the age of 11, when I worked in a lawfirm, and when I quit the 9-5 to become a journalist. Even in these last few years when I have focussed mainly on editing, the dream of presenting still remained.
Now, at the ripe old age of 36, it has finally come true.
