Albania is now firmly on the map for the discerning traveller looking for an extra special holiday in Europe’s last wild frontier. It has also established itself as a perfect destination for niche, uber-cool festivals. Here is some of the lineup for 2020!
Gjirokaster Folk Festival, Gjirokaster 20 May

Albanian folk music is an integral part of the country’s culture and heritage and tells vivid stories of times, places, and people. Last year’s folk festival attracted some 1000 people and this year’s event is expected to attract even more. Taking place in The Stone City of Gjirokaster, this is the perfect event for those that want to experience something a bit off the beaten track.
UNUM Festival, Shengjin 28 May- 1 June
Lineup: Seth Troxler, Raresh, Sonja Moonear, Dyed Soundorom, Priku, tINI
UNUM is returning for its second edition in 2020, with a focus on positive vibes and unity. A techno and house festival, it will attract the likes of Seth Troxler, Sonja Moonear and Raresh on the shores of Shengjin in the north of the country.
Kala, Dhermi 10-17 June
Lineup: Moodymann, Palms Trax, Joy Orbison, 808 State, Skee Mask, Marcellus Pittman
Kala started in 2018 and since then it has cemented its place as one of Albania’s most unique festivals. Combining electro, funk, soul, and so-called ‘global rthyms” it takes place over the course of a week. Attendees can also enjoy yoga, beach massages, meditation and all sorts of other fun activities including excursions around the local area. has solidified itself as one of Albania’s, and perhaps Europe’s most exciting festivals.
Anjunadeep Presents: Explorations, Dhermi 20-25 June
Lineup: Lane 8, Yotto, Eli & Fur, 16BL and Fort Romeau
Anjundeep Presents is a five day retreat that offers up an eclectic selection of artists, combined with a wellness programme. Set against the backdrop of Dhermi’s stunning coast, a selection of big names from the label will spin the decks while festival goers enjoy a range of yoga and meditation classes, as well as dancing the night away.
ION Festival, Dhermi 6-9 September
Lineup: TBC
ION is a brand new festival set over four days in September. Created by LWE and Junction 2, attendees can expect a high-octane event with a dazzling line up of exciting electronic talent, making it a ‘must-do’ on any self respecting festival fans calendar.
